Cincinnati Stix 8, Cincy Flames 6

The Cincinnati Stix jumped out on the Flames and scored 8 runs in the first two innings of the Championship game of the Matt Maupin Scholarship Fund Tournament and held on to win 8-6.

Though the Flames come back fell short, there certainly were some highlights. Dalton Ranshaw smacked his 2nd extra-base hit of the day, Ryne "Big Papi" Poli hit a triple that scored two, Tristan Lana laid down a perfect bunt for a hit, and Noah Mehrle went 3 for 3.

In relief of starter John Malott, Ronnie Murphy came in and shut the Stix down. In 3 2/3 innings Murphy struck out 3 and gave up no ER.

Cincy Flames 14, Columbus Big Katz 5

The Cincy Flames brought out the sticks again in their rematch with the Columbus Big Katz scoring 14 runs in the Semi-Final game of the Matt Maupin Scholarship Fund Tournament.

Noah Mehrle pitched 4 innings stiking out 6 for the win. Joey "Phil Niekro" Wenning closed out the last 2 innings with a K for the save.

Cincy Flames 10, Cincinnati Stix - American 0

The Flames kept up their hot hitting and Joey "Phil Niekro" Wenning and his knuckleball kept the Stix from scoring. Logan Brauning closed out the game with 8 strikes and a ball (a pitchout) for the save.

Defensively a nifty 1-2-3 double play from Joey Wenning, to Nick Ernst, to Ronnie Murphy was the play of the day.

Offensively Ryne "Big Papi" Poli cleared the left field fence by a good mile for the Flames' first out-of-the park home run of the year.

Cincy Flames 24, Cincinnati Patriots 6

The Flames remained hot offensively, and put up 15 runs in the 5th inning to finish 3-0 in Pool Play in the 1st Annual Matt Maupin Tournament. The Flames earned the 2-seed in the Championship round with the rivan Cincinnati Stix National earning the 1-seed.

Cincy Flames 1, Midland Tribe 0

The Cincy Flames eked out a win in the first game of pool play in the 1st Annual Matt Maupin Tournament by beating the Midland Tribe 1-0.

The Flames bats were silenced by one of the best pitching performances they have seen this year, but the Flames pitching and defense held the Tribe scoreless long enough to rally in the 6th inning. After Noah Mehrle walked and stole second he scored when Logan Brauning reached first base on an errant throw by the third baseman. Noah slid under the high tag from the catcher to score the winning run.

Nick Ernst tossed 3 1/3 inning giving up just 1 H, 0 ER while striking out 3. Dalton Ranshaw tossed 1 2/3 innings with a K. And Ian Rutzel pitched a perfect 6th inning to pick up the win.

Defensively Logan "Clutch" Brauning made a diving catch in left field, and John Malott threw a strike from centerfield to home to catch a player trying to score from second on a hit. Ronnie Murphy made two solid put outs, including a perfect throw from Ryne Poli to catch a player trying to score. And he also threw out a would be basestealer in the first inning.

Cincy Flames drop two to the Sluggers

The Cincy Flames couldn't muster any runs against 3 Sluggers pitchers, and the Sluggers managed two runs in the first tilt, and 9 runs in the second game to take a 3 game lead in the SWOL standings.

The Cincy Flames took awhile to get warmed up, but finished strong to secure their 11th SWOL win. John Malott broke a 3-3 tie with two out in the top of the 5th with a single that scored two. Taylor Healey and Logan Brauning each had two hits, and Dalton Ranshaw smacked his team leading 3rd triple of the season.

On the mound Tristan Lana pitched 4 solid innings giving up 5 H, a BB, and 0 ER, while striking out 1 for the win. Indiana Boys Dalton Ranshaw and Ian Rutzel pitched two innings giving up 0 ER for the save.

West Chester Sluggers 6, Cincy Flames 5

The Cincy Flames jumped out early by scoring two runs in the first inning of the 2007 SWOL Championship game against the West Chester Sluggers. The Sluggers tied it in the 4th before the Flames dented the plate 3 times in the top of the 6th. The Sluggers scored 4 times in the bottom of the 6th to win the Championship. The Flames played great for the entire tournament bringing home the runner-up trophy in the 12 team tournament.

Taylor Healey pitched 3 impressive innings for the win, and Ian Rutzel closed the door in the 4th for the save.

The Cincy Flames scored 6 times in each of the first two innings, and never looked back in the first game of pool play in the 2007 SWOL Multi Sanction Tourney. Tristan Lana started and pitched 3 2/3 innings with 5 Ks for the win.

It sounds like the game was much more exciting than the presentation I was sitting through. Ronnie Murphy went 4 innings with 3 Ks for the win, and Nick Ernst pitched 2 solid innings striking out 4 for the save.

The Cincy Flames put up two runs in the first inning and added two more in the 5th and 6th to hold on for their 7th SWOL win.

John Malott started and pitched 4 solid innings with 3 Ks, a BB, 2 H, and 2 ER for the win. Noah Merhle pitched the last two innings with 2 Ks, 3 H, 0 BB for the save.

Taylor, John, Nick and Tristan each hit doubles. Ian Rutzel executed a perfect suicide squeeze after Logan Brauning perfectly sacrificed the runner to third. Noah Mehrle and Joey wenning each came up with RBI singles.

Cincy Flames 11, Cincinnati Stix - National 5

Before the rains washed away game two, the Cincy Flames defeated the Cincinnati Stix National team 11-5.

Dalton Ranshaw started and struck out 3 in his 3 innings of work for the win. Ian Rutzel pitched two innings with a K, and Tristan Lana retired the last hitter for the save.

Offensively Taylor Healey went 2 for 4 with a 2B, RBI, and 2 R. Ronnie Murphy went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, Nick Ernst went 2 for 3 with a R, and Ian Rutzel and Logan Brauning each hit RBI singles.

Defensively Joey Wenning made an outstanding diving catch of a ball in centerfield to rob a hit, Nick Ernst picked off a runner at first with a great throw. Ronnie Murphy made a great scoop at first to finish a put out, and also made a great tag to get the runner that Nick picked off.
