Cincy Flames 1, Midland Tribe 0

The Cincy Flames eked out a win in the first game of pool play in the 1st Annual Matt Maupin Tournament by beating the Midland Tribe 1-0.

The Flames bats were silenced by one of the best pitching performances they have seen this year, but the Flames pitching and defense held the Tribe scoreless long enough to rally in the 6th inning. After Noah Mehrle walked and stole second he scored when Logan Brauning reached first base on an errant throw by the third baseman. Noah slid under the high tag from the catcher to score the winning run.

Nick Ernst tossed 3 1/3 inning giving up just 1 H, 0 ER while striking out 3. Dalton Ranshaw tossed 1 2/3 innings with a K. And Ian Rutzel pitched a perfect 6th inning to pick up the win.

Defensively Logan "Clutch" Brauning made a diving catch in left field, and John Malott threw a strike from centerfield to home to catch a player trying to score from second on a hit. Ronnie Murphy made two solid put outs, including a perfect throw from Ryne Poli to catch a player trying to score. And he also threw out a would be basestealer in the first inning.

Mehrle 0-1, BB, R

W- Rutzel 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER
