Cincy Flames 4, Fresno Blue Devils 3
The Cincy Flames moved to 3-0 in Cooperstown pool play with a dramatic 4-3 win over the Blue Devils from Fresno.
The Flames scored two runs in the 4th to knot the game 3-3. After Nick reached on a walk, Dalton Ranshaw smacked a double. Tristan Lana laid down a perfect bunt to score Nick, and then Joey Wenning laced a single to left to score Dalton.
The Flames broke the tie in the 5th when Nick scored on a wild pitch.
On the Mound Joey Wenning kept the big Fresno batters off balance through 4 innings for the win. John Malott pitched the 5th and was aided by circus catch by Ryne Poli in right field that saved atleast a run.
The dramtic bottom of the sixth started out with Fresno reaching base twice. After an Intentional Walk to the big first baseman, the Flames defense kicked into high gear. Noah Merhle fielded a high chopper at 3rd and came home for out number one, Nick through to first to finish the double play, but the throw got away from Ryno who was backed up by right fielder John Malott a strong throw and a great tag by Nick caught the runner trying to score. Bang Bang double play. After I was rescucitated I watched Ronnie Murphy strike out the last batter for the save, and a fanstastic win.
