TSB Baseball, CA 7, Cincy Flames 3

The Flames meeting with the #1 seed (and eventual runners-up) ended with a 7-3 defeat. Joey Wenning pitched fantastic, and the defense held up, but the powerful California State Champions proved to be too much for the Flames.

The Flames ended the tournament with a .373 batting average and the pitchers had a 2.16 ERa.

Cincy Flames 17, Fresno Blue Devils 5

Round 4 saw the Flames in a rematch game from pool play. The Blue Devils from Fresno, who the Flames beat 4-3 earlier in the week put up 4 runs in the first two innings before the Flames bats came alive.

The Flames put up 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd and 9 runs in the bottom of the 4th to take the lead. Ronnie Murphy, Joey Wenning, John Malott and an air tight defense shut down the big Fresno offense.

Cincy Flames 8, Virginia Crush 1

The Flames received 2 buys in the Championship bracket of the Cooperstown Dreams Tournament. In Round 3 the Flames met the Virginia Crush this year's 2007 Virginia state USSSA Runners-up. Both teams played great baseball, but the Flames ended up on top.

Noah Mehrle was once again lights out on the mound giving up just one earned run, and the Flames defense was once again fantastic behind him.

Offensively the Flames scored 2 in the first, 1 in the second, 3 in the fourth, and 2 in the fifth.

Cincy Flames 16, Frozen Ropes of Chicago 0

A one-hour thunderstorm delay couldn't slow down the Flames' hot bats. The Flames put 16 runs across the plate to move to 6-0 in pool play. The defense was also hot again with Ryne Poli throwing out another runner at first base from right field and catcher Ronnie Murphy gunning out a would be basestealer.

Cincy Flames 3, Rhode Island Reds 2

Game 5 of Cooperstown pool play saw the 3-1 Rhode Island Reds facing the undefeated Cincy Flames. The Flames' hot bats were silent for most of the game but strong pitching by Dalton Ranshaw and Ian Rutzel held the Reds down, and the right arm of Nick "Moses" Ernst threw out two would be basestealers.

Closer Ronnie Murphy ended the game with a strikeout and a routine 9-3 put out by right fielder John Malott, his 4th putout of the tournament from the outfield.

Offensively John Malott smacked a double, Dalton Ranshaw added a single, and Ryne Poli chipped in with an RBI-single. Logan Brauning reached base twice and scored two the first two runs by the Flames.

Cincy Flames 15, Pasadena Lake Panthers 5

Game 4 of the Cincy Flames' Dreams Park experienced had them facing the 3-0 Pasadena Lake Panthers from South Florida. Pasadena Lake had only allowed 1 run until they ran into the Flames.

The Flames put up 9 in the 2nd inning and 9 in the fourth inning . Ronnie Murphy and John Malott combined for the win giving up 0 ER. Ronnie continued his hot hitting going 3 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI, Ryne Poli went 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI. Nick Ernst knocked in 2 with 2 hits, Tristan Lana went 3 for 4, Joey Wenning remained on fire going 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI.

So far the Flames have a .423 (44-104) through 4 games at Cooperstown.

Cincy Flames 4, Fresno Blue Devils 3

The Cincy Flames moved to 3-0 in Cooperstown pool play with a dramatic 4-3 win over the Blue Devils from Fresno.

The Flames scored two runs in the 4th to knot the game 3-3. After Nick reached on a walk, Dalton Ranshaw smacked a double. Tristan Lana laid down a perfect bunt to score Nick, and then Joey Wenning laced a single to left to score Dalton.

The Flames broke the tie in the 5th when Nick scored on a wild pitch.

On the Mound Joey Wenning kept the big Fresno batters off balance through 4 innings for the win. John Malott pitched the 5th and was aided by circus catch by Ryne Poli in right field that saved atleast a run.

The dramtic bottom of the sixth started out with Fresno reaching base twice. After an Intentional Walk to the big first baseman, the Flames defense kicked into high gear. Noah Merhle fielded a high chopper at 3rd and came home for out number one, Nick through to first to finish the double play, but the throw got away from Ryno who was backed up by right fielder John Malott a strong throw and a great tag by Nick caught the runner trying to score. Bang Bang double play. After I was rescucitated I watched Ronnie Murphy strike out the last batter for the save, and a fanstastic win.

Cincy Flames 15, Concord-Carlisle Minutemen 3

The Flames continued solid hitting in game 2 of pool play with a 15-3 run rule of the Minutemen from Massachusetts. Indiana Boys Dalton Ranshaw and Ian Rutzel shut down the Minutemen offense and were helped with solid defense especially on a diving catch at short stop by Taylor Healey.

Offsensively Joey Wenning and Tristan Lana each hit RBI-singles. Taylor Healey went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Ryne Poli went 2 for 3.

Cincy Flames 16, Beaver Valley Black, PA 0

The Cincy Flames opened up pool play at the Cooperstown Dreams Park with a 16-0 win over the Beaver Valley Black.

Noah Mehrle was lights out on the mound pitching a complete game shutout with 7 Ks.

Defensively John Malott made a diving catch in right field and nearly doubled off a run at 2nd with a throw from his backside.

Offensively the Flames bats were hot, Ryne Poli and Dalton Ranshaw each hit shots off the wall and Tristan Lana and Ronnie Murphy earch went 2 for 3.

Cincy Flames 12, Ohio Heat 10

The Cincy Flames finished up their SWOL schedule with a 12-10 victory over the Ohio Heat. The Flames got down early, but in true Flames fashion battled back and broke a 9-9 tie in the top of the 6th with 3 runs. The Heat dented the plate once in the bottom of the 6th off of closer John Malott, but solid defense plays behind him by Tristana Lana and Noah Merhle and one strike out finished the game for the save.

Offensivley Nick Ernst, John Malott, and Ryne Poli each had multi-hit games. Dalton Ranshaw smacked his 6th triple of the year, Noah Mehrle hit an RBI-single, Ronnie Murphy went 1 for 3 with a R, Tristan Lana went 1 for 2, and Logan Brauning went 1 for 3 with a R.

Cincy Flames 6, 11U Kentucky Titans 5

Nick Ernst scored the winning run in the bottom of the 6th inning as the 10u Cincy Flames pulled out a victory in the 11U Cincy Flames Summer Classic.

In the top of the 6th with the score tied 5-5 the Titans loaded the bases. Coach Josh made a call to the bullpen and brought in the "Duece", Noah Merhle to keep the game tied. It took just 8 pitches to induce a 1-2 force out, a 5-2 force out, and a pop to the third baseman. The crowd went wild and I think I even saw what might have been the wave by the Flames faithful.

After the Titans scored 4 in the first inning the Flames settled down and battled back. In the bottom of the first inning RBI-doubles by Ronnie "Stud" Murphy and Nick Ernst followed by great baserunning by Nick put the game back in reach at 4-3.

After the Titans' Slugger smacked a 230 HR to dead center in the 2nd inning the Titans never dented the plate again as Dalton Ranshaw, Ian Rutzel and closer Noah Merle shut them down for 4 innings.


The Flames scored two more times in the 3rd when Taylor Healey walked and John "Birthday Boy" Malott followed with a double, two RBI groundouts by Murphy and Poli and the Flames knotted the score at 5-5, where the score remained until Nick touched home witht he winning run.

10u Cincy Flames lose 3 in Pool Play at the 11U Cincy Flames Classic

In preperation for the upcoming Cooperstown Dreams Park experience the Cincy Flames signed up for the 11U Cincy Flames Classic. The 10U Cincy Flames could have chosen a tournament with weaker 11U competition to pick up some wins, but the Flames chose to prepare by playing the best 11U competition in the area. The Classic attracts many out of town travel teams preparing for National Tournaments as well as many National league SWOL teams.

The Flames lost 9-1 to the 11U Ohio Storm a travel team from Akron.

Cincy Flames 13, Ohio Heat 1

The Cincy Flames came out hitting with 4 runs in the 1st, 4 runs in the 2nd, and 5 runs in the 3rd. Noah Mehrle was spectacular on the bump once again striking out 4 in 3 1/3 for the win. Joey Wenning had his knuckleball dancing and pitched 2/3 of an inning for the save.

Offensively John Malott went 3 for 3 with a 2B, and 3 RBI. Ryne Poli went 2 for 2 with 3 RBI. Nick Ernst went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI. Tristan Lana went 1 for 1 with 2 RBI. In the 3rd inning Dalton Ranshaw creamed a triple 234 feet off the base of the wall that scored 2.

The Cincy Flames put up 3 runs early and John Malott held the Angels batting order in check by letting his superb defense behind him do the work.

Offensively Joey Wenning smacked an RBI-double in the gap and later added a single up the middle. Each Flame reached base once in the game.

John Malott pitched 4 innings giving up just a H, 2 BB, and an ER for the win, and Ronnie Murphy tossed 2 innings striking out 3 for the save.

From the reports off the AP wire it sounds like the Flames won 4-3, when Dalton Ranshaw smacked a bases loaded single with the bases juiced in the bottom of the 6th.
